The Minister for Correctional Services has released the Review of the Northern Territory Youth Detention System January 2015 by Michael Vita, also known as the Vita Report.

The report was commissioned following a series of incidents at the former Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in late 2014.

The report was released during a media tour of the new Don Dale Correctional Centre on 18 February 2015.

Both the minister and Commissioner for Correctional Services have described the report as a roadmap for the future of youth detention in the Territory, with 16 recommendations to be implemented in full.

Territory Families has responsibility for young people who have been detained in a Youth Justice Centre. Using a trauma informed and strengths based approach Territory Families aims to assist young people in custody through the provision of educations, therapeutic treatment, related services and activities.
